TheFranaGroup firm assists six Federally Qualified Health Centers receive funds for substance use disorder.
Rockford, IL: September 19, 2018 – US Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) announced today the awarding of $1,625,000 in funding to six clients of theFranaGroup.
The $1,625,000 in funding awards will help increase access to Substance Use Disorder and Mental Health (SUD-MH) services and to fund a Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP) award for opioid planning strategies to meet the opioid epidemic in six states: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, California, Alaska, and Tennessee. Awards are $285,000 each for the five SUD-MH grants and $200,000 for RCORP grant. The purpose of these grant programs is to support existing Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) clinics to fight the opioid epidemic by: expanding access to treatment and recovery services; targeting use of overdose-reversing drugs; and expanding behavioral health services. The RCORP program supports planning activities to assist rural communities develop strategies for combating opioid use.
FQHCs now represent the largest primary practice in the United States. In 2017 they served more than 25.8 million patients with over 104 million patient visits at over 13,000 service sites with a combined staffing of over 207,000 health care professionals. FQHCs now provide primary care to one in thirteen adults and one in ten children living in the United States.
HHS is committed to ensuring more people across the country have access to the quality patient-centered care they deserve. Health centers are key partners in improving access to quality, affordable primary health care services for persons in high risk populations. HHS awarded more than $396 million to 1,286 health centers and over 120 rural health organizations to support expansion and integration of mental health and substance use disorder services. These services focus on the treatment, prevention, and awareness of opioid abuse in the primary care setting by increasing personnel, leveraging health information technology, and providing training.
