National Health Center Week is August 13-19, 2017

Rockford IL:  August 17, 2017 – The national campaign kicks off this week (August 13th-19th) with the goal of raising awareness about the mission and accomplishments of America’s Health Centers over the course of more than 50 years.  Health Centers not only prevent illness and foster wellness in the most challenging populations, they produce innovative solutions to the most pressing health care issues in their communities.  They reach beyond the walls of conventional medicine to address the factors that may cause sickness, such as lack of nutrition, mental illness, homelessness and opioid addition.  Because of their long record of success in innovation, managing health care costs, and reducing chronic disease, health centers have a proud tradition of bipartisan support in Congress.

The approximately 1400 Health Centers (also known as Federally Qualified Health Centers) nationally served nearly 26 million persons in 2017, including:

One in three persons living in poverty.
One in ten children nationally.
One in six rural residents.
Over 330,000 Veterans.

Collectively, Health Centers are the largest primary group practice in the country, producing $24 billion in annual health system savings.  Locally, Crusader Community Health is the largest Health Center in NW Illinois, serving over 50,000 unduplicated patients in 2016.
